Modeled after Fountain House's internationally acclaimed Clubhouse Model of psychiatric rehabilitation in New York City, Potter Place is an innovative clubhouse program. The basic ingredient of the program in employment. Potter Place consists of vocational, social and support services. Each component operates within a framework which stresses participation, ownership and choice for clubhouse members. Transitional Employment Placements are at the core of the Potter Place Program and are unique to the Waltham area in both concept and practice.

Potter Place members perform many jobs ranging from data entry, office work, mail room work, maintenance and messenger services. Potter Place staff work closely with both the club member and the employer, providing ongoing training, support and supervision.

Employers who hire Potter Place members are spared the expense of providing them costly company-mandated benefits such as medical insurance, pension contributions, profit sharing and vacation days. We also guarantee coverage by staff if the member is unable to work for any reason. Although a transitional employment placement is usually 6 months in duration, the employer is not effected by the turnover because all training is done by Potter Place.
